about

Pieces of Home was written by Robert Milne and recorded by bandmate Brendan Christie over the early months of 2021. It demonstrates the band’s ability to explore arrangement and dynamics as it builds and soars from verse to chorus, expressing both the frustration and euphoria of adolescence - “don’t pretend that life means nothing.” The chorus swells and bursts with the release of endless parental love and empathy - “Isn’t that what you wanted?”.

lyrics

Why do you lie when you’re not guilty?
Why do you lie at all?
Why do you cry? Your hand’s aren’t empty
You’re holding pieces of home

Turn on the bridge and find the faces you know
Haven’t you lived long enough to find a place to go

Find your mother’s eyes and see the love
The home you belong in
Find your father’s arms and feel the warmth
The sun in the morning
Isn’t that what you wanted?

Son, don’t pretend that life means nothing
Even when love runs cold
Cold love can make young hearts feel thirsty
Find something pure in someone bold

Turn on the bridge and find the places you know
Haven’t you lived long enough to find a place to go

Find your mother’s eyes and see the love
The home you belong in
Find your father’s arms and feel the warmth
The sun in the morning
Isn’t that what you wanted?
